Evan really wanted to tell this story, so it's all him...

I remember calling Kristyn and work and asking her if she was free on Friday, June 14 because I wanted to take her out to dinner to celebrate her new job. She was free that evening, and I made reservations at "Ray's the Steaks," which is one of our favorite restaurants in the area.
The big day comes, and we head out for an awesome steak dinner. I'm a little nervous at this point because my best man, Chris Healey, is simultaneously sneaking into our apartment to lay out the roses and champagne that I purchased earlier in the day (more on that later).
We get to the restaurant and Kristyn says she's chilly and asks to wear my jacket. Normally this would be fine, but the ring was in my coat pocket. I say, "Sure, but pick out a bottle of wine first." When she looks at the wine menu, I transfer the ring to my pants pocket and hand over the jacket. A minor crisis is averted, and the rest of dinner goes smoothly.
While driving home, I casually suggest to Kristyn that we go for a walk in Jones Point Park--one of our favorite places--to walk off the "food baby" sensation we're both experiencing. She agrees, but wants to make a pit-stop at home first. I have a minor freak out at this point because if she goes home, she will see the roses and champagne in the apartment. I awkwardly say that "sunset is at 8:32--we don't want to miss it." (I checked when sunset was because I wanted it to propose at sunset) She buys this lame excuse, and we arrive at the park. I conveniently have a pair of her flip-flops in the backseat of my car so she doesn't have to suffer through heels on our walk (and she has one less reason to need to stop by the apartment).
Washington, D.C. was originally shaped like a 10 x 10 mile diamond, which included parts of Maryland and Virginia. At the southernmost tip of this diamond, there is a lighthouse overlooking the Potomac in Jones Point Park. Kristyn and I walk to this lighthouse and watch the sunset. I was a bit nervous at this point, but figured "it's now or never," and I got down on one knee. Kristyn looked confused, and her eyes were drawn to the ring as I went into my short spiel on how much I love her and how she's the one for me (I kept it short because I was pretty sure I'd forget a longer speech). She quickly blurted out a "Yes" then paused until she said, "I don't know what else to say."
"Yes" was the answer I was looking for, and we happily walk back to our apartment. When we enter, she sees the flowers and champagne, and we enjoy the rest of the evening telling our friends and family the big news!
